Lets take for example, war as mentioned, with 9/11 in particular. 9/11 happened and because of emotional ties conflict arouse or at least became the forefront for the conflict between the "free world" and those who sought to destroy it "the terrorists". Because of the emotional of getting even or making them pay the rational goal of protecting the worldand how to do it came into effect. Our own government certainly capatilized on the american peoples emotion during this period.
